The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced securities litigator to lead its premier Investor Protection Bureau located in New York City. The Investor Protection Bureau is responsible for the enforcement of New York’s blue sky laws, known as the Martin Act. In recent years, the office has investigated a wide range of conduct impacting the financial markets, including residential mortgage-backed securities, high frequency trading, Ponzi schemes, and foreign currency exchange. The Bureau also litigates high profile matters such as those involving Barclays’ dark pool, Bank of New York’s foreign currency practices, certain Madoff feeder funds, the Bank of America/Merrill merger and accounting fraud issues involving E&Y relating to the Lehman bankruptcy, as well as other cases concerning deceptive and fraudulent practices involving securities and commodities.
The Bureau Chief will supervise attorneys and support staff in their civil investigations and affirmative lawsuits on behalf of the Office. The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an experienced real estate attorney to lead its premier Real Estate Finance Bureau located in New York City. The Real Estate Finance Bureau regulates the offer and sale of real estate securities including cooperative interests in realty (cooperatives, condominiums, timeshares, homeowners associations, and senior communities) and syndications under New York’s blue sky law, known as the Martin Act. The Bureau uses its statutory and regulatory authority to mandate adequate disclosure to investors of real estate securities, as well as protect purchasers and tenants affected by co-op and condominium development. The Bureau also uses the Martin Act and the New York Executive Law to investigate complaints such as misuse of purchaser down payments, failure to complete construction, misallocation of tax benefits such as 421-a, and the violation of tenants’ rights.
